The Carplay feature that allows your iPhone 13 to seamlessly connect with your car is really handy. But I’ve recently asked myself “can I turn off CarPlay on my iPhone 13” because I wanted to be able to have my phone in my car without the car and phone connecting to one another.
CarPlay gives you access to map applications like Google Maps or Waze, plus you can listen to music from the Spotify app, Pandora, Apple Music, and more.
If your car supports wireless Carplay then it’s even easier to use it. Once you complete the initial connection you just need to have your phone inside of the car and the connection will take place automatically.
But it’s possible that you may not want to use Carplay for one reason or another, and you would prefer not to completely remove the connection between the phone and the car.
Luckily there are a handful of settings that you can adjust on your iPhone to control Carplay, including an option that can turn it off.

How to Disable Carplay on an iPhone 13
- Tap Settings.
- Choose General.
- Select Carplay.
- Touch the car system.
- Turn off Carplay.

How to Stop Your Car from Using Carplay on Your iPhone 13 (Guide with Pictures)
The steps in this article were performed on an iPhone 13 in the iOS 15.4.1 operating system.
These steps assume that you have already connected your phone to your car to use wireless CarPlay, but that you would now like to turn it off.
While you’re in the General menu you might want to look into changing some keyboard settings, like if you wanted to know how to caps lock on iPhone 13.
Step 1: Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
Step 2: Scroll down and select the General option.
Step 3: Touch the Carplay button.
Step 4: Choose the car/system for which you would like to turn off Carplay.
Step 5: Tap the button next to Carplay to turn it off.
If you don’t see a Carplay option then you have a wired Carplay connection, which does not offer the ability to disable it. However, you can elect to not allow Carplay when locked, then just keep your phone locked while it is plugged into your car.

Note that you can only turn off Carplay like this if your car has the wireless Carplay feature. if you connect your iPhone to your car via a cable, then you aren’t able to disable the Carplay feature.
For wired Carplay connections, the only options that you will see on the Carplay menu are:
- Customize
- Allow Carplay While Locked
- Forget This Car
The Customization option is available regardless of whether your Carplay connection is wireless or wired. If you select that option you will be able to tap the red circle with the minus icon to remove an app from Carplay.
Additionally, you can reorganize your Carplay apps by tapping and holding on the three horizontal gray lines to the right of the app name, then dragging them to the desired order.
