Have you ever tried to connect another device to your iPhone via Bluetooth, only to see that your iPhone was identifying itself with an unusual name?

Often your iPhone will identify itself with your first name, which generally makes things easy.

But situations can arise where the name might not make any sense. Or perhaps you acquired the phone from a friend or family member and it is still using their name.

Regardless of the reason for the problematic name, it’s possible for you to change the Bluetooth name on your iPhone.

You can change the Bluetooth name on an iPhone 13 by going to Settings > General > About > Name > then erasing the old one and entering a new one.

More Information on Switching your iPhone 13’s Bluetooth Name

Once you make this change it is going to affect not only the way that other Bluetooth devices see your iPhone, it is also going to change the way it’s identified on networks, too.

When you connect to a wireless network, some of the information that your device shares with that network is the device name. If you have a router that can show you all of the connected devices, then you can see what those device names are. For the iPhone, the name that is used is the one that we changed in this article.

You can see all of the Bluetooth devices that are currently connected to your iPhone by going to Settings > Bluetooth. if a device is connected it will say “Connected” next to it.

If you tap on the small “i” to the right of a Bluetooth device you can see some information about that device and take a couple of actions.

For connected devices you will see an option to disconnect and an option to “Forget this Device.”

For some Bluetooth devices you will be able to see a device name and change that name. For example, if you have AirPods connected to your iPhone you can give them a different name.

If you are having trouble with a Bluetooth pairing then the first thing you should try is to tap the button to the right of Bluetooth to turn it off. You can then wait a few seconds and turn it back on then try the pairing or connection again.

Similar steps can be taken to give a new Bluetooth name to an iPad or an iPod Touch.
