Apple Pay is really useful for quickly paying for items in stores that support it. You can just open your wallet on your phone, hold it near the payment terminal, and complete the transaction.
More and more retailers are supporting this, and I know that I have personally seen a lot more people using it out in the world.
Due to its increasing usage and new levels of adoption, many people are looking for a way to make the process as seamless as possible.
If so, it’s likely that you enabled the setting on your iPhone where the wallet will open automatically if you double-click the side button.
However, this is very easy to do by accident, and you might find that you are opening the wallet more when you don’t want to than when you actually do.
You can stop the iPhone 13 wallet from opening when you double click the side button by going to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > then turning off the Double-Click Side Button option.
While this will stop you from being able to use your iPhone for contactless payments, it will prevent the Wallet from opening if you press the side button twice by mistake.
Our tutorial continues below with more information on turning off the double click side button for the wallet on an iPhone.
How to Prevent Double-Clicking the Side Button from Opening your Wallet
- Open Settings.
- Choose Wallet & Apple Pay.
- Turn off Double-Click Side Button.
Our guide continues below with more information on how to disable this setting and turning off the contactless payment option on your iPhone 13.

More Information on How to Adjust the Setting That Causes Your Apple Wallet to Open
The steps above are focused on stopping your iPhone Wallet from opening if you press the side button twice in a row.
You are still going to be able to use the Apple Wallet if you open the Wallet app on your device. However, if you want to use the contactless payment systems with your iPhone, such as tap to pay, then you need to keep that double-click side button setting turned on.
Or, if you have an Apple Watch, you could enable Apple Pay on there and perform contactless payments using your watch.
If you do want to try using your Apple watch for tap to pay, then open the Watch app on your iPhone, select the My Watch tab, then scroll down and select Wallet & Apple Pay. Tap the Add button next to a card you want to use, then enter the card’s security code.
Once you have set up a card for Apple pay on your watch then you just need to press the side button twice to bring up the card, then hold it near a payment terminal and wait to feel a vibration to let you know that the payment was successful.
