How to Remove a Text Message Subject Line from a Google Pixel 4A

Text messaging is often an informal activity that seems to follow its own set of communication rules. many people use shorthand, abbreviations, emojis, and other types of words that aren’t often found in other types of written communication.

But there are some more formal elements that you can add to text messages, such as the Subject field that can be found in the Messages app on your Google Pixel 4A smartphone.

When this subject field is enabled you can see it at the bottom-right corner of the screen, and you can enter a subject for a message into that field.

But if you don’t want or need that field then you can remove the Google Pixel 4A Messages subject field by opening the app, choosing the conversation, then tapping the x to the right of Subject.

Now the only thing that you should see at the bottom of the Messages screen is a single field where you can type the body of the message and send it to your contact.

More Information on How to Remove or How to Put Subject on Text Messages on a Google Pixel 4A

We assume that you are dealing with the subject field in the default Messages app in this guide. If you are using something else, like a third-party messaging app, then these steps will not apply. You would need to find and adjust the settings for that specific app instead.

The steps in this article assume that the Subject field is currently showing for one of your messages and you want to remove it.

However, if you want to add a subject line to a message, then you can use similar steps to place that field on the screen. Simply open the Messages app, select the conversation, tap the three dots at the top-right of the screen, then touch the Subject field option.

The Google Pixel 4A does not have a default setting that allows the subject field to display persistently. If it’s showing for a message then it must have been turned on previously and is simply still enabled.

If you aren’t able to remove the subject line using the steps in this article then you can try restarting the phone by holding down the Power button on the side and tapping either the Power Off or Restart button.

If the subject field is still there then you might need to take more drastic steps, such as going to Settings > System > Advanced reset options and electing to factory reset the phone.
