The icons in the status bar at the top of your Google Pixel 4A can provide you with a lot of information about the device.
But since there are so many different things that can be shown there, it can be a delicate balance between showing more icons and making the displayed icons more informative.
One of the ways that you can customize the battery icon in the status bar is to show a percentage next to the battery.
You can show the battery percentage on a Google Pixel 4A by going to Settings > Battery > Show battery percentage.
Once this setting is enabled you will see a number next to the battery icon that indicates how much of your battery you have left.
This works similarly to the icon, it’s just a more precise way of quantifying the remaining charge. For example, if you saw a half-full battery icon you might think you were at 50%, while, with the percentage displayed, you could see that you were really at 45%.
For some Pixel users the approximation from just the icon is sufficient as it allows them to show more icons but, if your battery life is important to you, then being able to see a more precise value can be very useful.

More Information on How to Use Battery Percentage – Pixel 4A
You can switch between showing your remaining battery life as an icon or a percentage whenever you would like.
The Battery menu on your Google Pixel 4A will also let you know whether or not your apps are running normally. If you have an app that is using an excessive amount of battery life in the background, then you would be able to see it on this screen.
If you tap the Battery Saver button you will be able to turn on that setting. You will also be able to enable the “Extreme Battery Saver”, set a schedule for when the battery saver should come on, or turn it off when the phone’s battery is at 90%.
There is also an “Adaptive Battery” feature that can learn how you use the phone to get the most out of your charge. There is also “Adaptive Charging” which paces charging overnight to help extend the life of the battery.
When battery saver is turned on, the Pixel 4A will:
- Turn on Dark theme
- Turn off or restrict background activity
- Turn off or restrict some visual effects
- Turn off or restrict some other features like “Hey Google”
These are all things that can help to extend your battery charger without dramatically affecting the way that your phone behaves.
