The Gmail app on your Google Pixel 4A smartphone has a lot of settings that you can customize.
Some of these settings involve ways that the app behaves, while other settings involve the way that it looks.
Perhaps the first thing that you will notice when you open the Gmail app is the number of emails that you see in your inbox. If you see a small number of emails then you will need to scroll a lot, while you will need to scroll less if you see a lot of emails.
This isn’t something that you need to live with, however, if there are too few or too many emails shown at once.
You can change the Gmail conversation list density on a Pixel 4A by going to the Gmail app, tapping the three horizontal lines, choosing Settings, then General settings, selecting Conversation list density, then selecting an option.
Now when you open the Gmail app on your phone the way that the inbox looks should be different than how it was before.
If you are happy with the new look then you can go on using the app but, if you still don’t like it, simply return to the setting we just described and try another option.
Our tutorial continues below with more information on changing the number of emails in the Gmail inbox by adjusting a setting found within the Gmail app.

More Information on How to Change the Gmail Inbox Display on a Pixel 4A
There are three different options that you can use when choosing the display density for the Gmail inbox:
- Default – this shows the least number of emails on an inbox screen at once, but also shows contact pictures and attachments
- Comfortable – this shows more emails than the default option, and also shows contact pictures, but no attachments
- Compact – this shows the most emails on the screen at once, but only shows the sender name and the email title
You can switch between these display options at any time if you find that the current setting isn’t what you want for the look of your inbox.
This won’t affect the display of the inbox in other apps like Messages, or third-party email apps that you might also be using on your Pixel 4A.
If you often use Gmail in a Web browser then you can choose from these same display density options, too. When you have your inbox open in a browser like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, click the gear icon at the top-right of the window, then select the desired option in the “Density” section of the menu.
